Social Tour to The Ancient City of Tianjin
The tour will take you to the Ancient Culture Street (Gu Wen Hua Jie). Similar to the cutural streets in Beijing, like the famous Liulichang, it shows the local government's effort to rebuild an ancient Chinese street of the 19th century in modern Tianjin. Although everything here is not original, you can still enjoy the balconies and columns of the red with unique structure."Antiques" here are not cheap, but if you are good at bargaining, you can still find some good stuff at a good price. Some good stores worth mentioning are the Nirenzhang Clay Figurine Shop, Yangliuqing New Year Poster Shop and Tianyige Four Chinese Writing Tools Shop. You will also have the opportunity to purchase local handicrafts when you are allowed free time to roam the the ancient streets.
While you are at Gu Wen Hua Jie, delegates could also purchase tickets to the "Eye of Tianjin". The Eye of Tianjin is deem the largest observation wheel in the world. The Tianjin Eye tops out at 35 floors, or 120 meter high. It was opened to the public in August 2008. On a good clear day, you could see the whole of Tianjin from the top of the Ferris Wheel.
After the tour, delegates may proceed to the conference banquet situated at Holiday Inn Hotel that is close to the Ancient City of Tianjin for a sumptuous meal. Student delegates may purchase tickets on the first day of the conference for this dinner (on site sales of dinner tickets is not available).
